Knowing your characters is very important in writing a novel. In order to have a successful and impactful character arc, you need to know a lot of things about who your story is about. You need to remember that even though your story might be fiction, your characters are still very real people. They have emotions, drives, desires, and flaws just like any other person. They have redeeming qualities and make questionable choices. They fall in and out of love. They want to be happy.
I have attached a PDF that will help you figure out the base of who your character is. It includes basic information such as their name and age, as well as more in depth information that directly relates to the plot of your story.
At the bottom half of the page, you will find a section titled "Character Development Throughout the Story." This is to help you get a general idea of who your character is at the beginning, middle, and end of your story to help you visualize your character arc and development.
You don't need to follow the outline exactly. It's just a method that I find helps to get all of my ideas in order.
Happy planning!
